H. N. Bialik, “A Passion To Be Joined”

Perhaps it is with all the enduring forces of the universe and the foundation of all existence, both hidden as well as revealed, the far and the near, the great and the small from the hosts of heavens to the dust of the Earth, from the drops of rain to the winds and storms, all of them God made twain, male and female.

In them all he planted the desire, the passion to be joined one to the other and to become one. From afar they are drawn to each other, they are attracted to each other, they are ever pursuing and being pursued, moving restlessly to and fro and they know no rest.

For such is the law of love, magnificent and conquering, implemented by a mighty God, the soul of every being and its living spirit, a fire pent up within the world’s confines, filling all creation so that there is no place free of it – without end, without limit.
